Blisters and blister-related conditions

• Determine the reason for blistering (exogenous or endogenous or a combination).
• Provide understandable information to child and family about the risks of fragile skin with blisters or skin that has a tendency to blister.
• Prevent expansion of blistering by recognising and avoiding external factors as much as possible.
• Inspect the entire skin at least daily and record where blistering is and where it is about to occur (often red or grey skin abnormalities).
• Make arrangements with any cooperating (multidisciplinary) healthcare providers regarding care for the prevention/treatment of blistering and consult or refer to a dermatologist/specialists in the field of blisters.

• Evaluate the effect and side effects of the treatment instituted at the appropriate time, and adjust treatment as needed. Involve child and family in this process.
